Minnesota Twins talk

All things relating to the Minnesota Twins

All good things must come to an end. July 4th game

Boof Bonser v. Jimmy Gobble. What a ring! Unfortunately, the Gobble rang louder tonight.

Hopefully this will help keep the Twins grounded, making them realize they aren’t invincible. Luckily, Detriot lost too so we didn’t lose ground there.

For the second night in a row the starting pitcher sucked. Boof walked 4 batters, including 3 in the bottom of the 3rd (with one of those coming with bases loaded). You just cannot expect to win when your pitcher walks in a run.

Lohse came in in the bottom of the 4th to pitch 4 decent innings. Struck out 4 and allowed a run.

Willie Eyre came in in the bottom of the 8th and gave up a two-run single.

Lew Ford had the only highlight of the Twins’ offense tonight with a 2-run home run in the top of the 3rd to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.

One thing that annoyed me tonight, with Gardenhire, is that he put in his “B lineup”. Not that they aren’t able to get the job done, but when you need to win games, you bench Jason Kubel and Joe Mauer for Lew Ford and Torii Hunter/Shannon Stewart? Ford played CF tonight while Hunter was the designated hitter.

I still don’t think Stewart is ready for the field. It just seems like he half-heartedly runs to the ball. I know he has heart, so it’s probably because he isn’t comfortable running around yet, which I’d be willing to bet is normal.

Wednesday’s game will see Brad Radke go against Brandon Duckworth. Here’s to a good pitching performance.

You forgot to mention that the Boofer got demoted to Rochester. After his stellar performance yesterday, perhaps the should have sent him a little farther down. The only problem I see with him being sent down is, now, Lohse is our 5th starter again.

I wrote that before the news. My rant on that will be included with tomorrow’s post.
